 With
a major in advertising and minor in journalism, my passion for the
arts and writing started early. I've done package design, produced
logos and have also created several book covers and book illustrations.
Much of my professional life was spent working in college administration.
So many of my passions and dreams have
come alive since moving from Denver, Colorado to the Oregon coast. I've
become the published author of a multi-cultural, young adult novel,
HOOT OWL SHARES THE DAWN (www.hickorytales.com)
and it won honorable mention in the 2005 Independent Publisher's
Awards.
In the summer of 2006, I signed a book
contract with James A. Rock Publishing (www.rockpublishing.com)
for FIDGETS, and beginning in December ‘06, FIDGETS is being
sold all over the country and abroad. I'm currently in the middle
of writing a mystery novel, UNDER THE SAME ROOF, which takes place in
an 'interesting' retirement home.
Just two years ago, I displayed my very
first watercolors. I adore working with watercolors and have really
taken a liking to yupo paper, which allows me to loosen up and paint
more freely… because
of its slick plastic surface.
I enjoy coming up with unusual ideas
and subjects to paint and usually my paintings end up with a whimsical
and oftentimes humorous touch. Many of my paintings also seem to share
a message of some sort… whether
it's political, environmental or a spoof on human nature.
In April of 2005, my life partner and I walked
into a grungy, old house and were convinced that a lot of hard work could transform
the five-room vacant building into a thriving artist co-op and art gallery. Backstreet
is "home" for
20 fabulous local Florence artists and is now a strong and vibrant art movement
on the central Oregon coast.
It's a thrill to be able to convey my simple joys and delights with ink and watercolors
and I trust that you'll enjoy my unique art expressions. And I know you'll enjoy
reading HOOT OWL and FIDGETS as well. All of my watercolor art and printed words
are created with much love and joy.
